Shane’s Deployment Ceremony

Though our Thanksgiving was jam packed with fun, Sunday was a little more solemn. We hopped in my dad’s truck with my parents and grandpa and headed out to Austin for Shane’s deployment ceremony. It was FREEZING and really windy but it was worth it. They had a couple speakers talking about what the troop would be doing overseas and the long history of this particular National Guard troop. Afterwards they gave the soldiers the rest of the afternoon to spend with their families. Here we are right after the ceremony:

Mackenzie is in every picture because she REFUSED to let go of her Uncle Shane. She sure is going to miss him.

The other family who came over for Thanksgiving also came to Austin for the ceremony. We all headed to Texas Land and Cattle for some dinner. So delicious! Then it was time to say goodbye. Granted, for Adrian, Mackenzie, and I it wasn’t very sad because we get to see him in a few weeks for Christmas. But for everyone else it was the last time they would see him until he returns next year. We then drove back home. Shane flew to Indiana Monday morning to start his intensive training. From there is where he’ll leave for Afghanistan.

I have to say I am so incredibly proud of my brother. We had a couple talks before he left and he was recognizing more this time (this is his second tour after all) that life was going to go on without him. He is going to miss the birth of both his new nieces. he is sacrificing so much for his country and I hope he knows how much we appreciate and love him.
